Internationaal Cellofestival Zutphen

This summer, the unique and internationally renowned Cello Festival will again take place in the city of Zutphen, known as the ‘Jewel on the River IJssel’. This beautiful and historic city, once part of the famed Hanseatic League, will host the seventh edition of the Cello Festival between Wednesday, August 21st and Sunday, August 25th, 2013.

Some of the world’s best cellists will perform a rich variety of repertoire in the city’s most attractive locations including theaters, churches, historical buildings and in the open air. Some performances will also be enriched by the addition of singers, pianists, violinists, and orchestras, among others.

The program is very special.
Each day will begin with a morning performance of a Bach Suite and a Britten Suite for cello solo: intense, pure, and intimate.
Then there will be lunch concerts with cello ensembles: full and open.
And, in the evening, all aspects of the art of playing the cello will be on offer: concerts, chamber music and even minimal music.
The events will go on until late in the evening, with new series of late-night concerts in Zutphen’s newest and most vibrant venue, a carefully restored factory called Het Koelhuis.

Our partnership with the Hanzehof Theater has been strengthened to include three concerts in their beautiful Buitensociëteit concert hall, which boasts one of the finest acoustics in the Netherlands. And, on Saturday afternoon, the podium will be filled with 50 kids and their cellos, as a narrator attempts to unlock for them the magical possibilities of the cello.
We’re very proud to announce that the Gelders Orkest will accompany the final concert of this, the seventh edition of the Cello Festival.

We’d like to share four days with you filled with unforgettable musical moments, starting on Wednesday, August 21st in Zutphen!
